Biomedical Engineering blends traditional engineering techniques with biological sciences and medicine to improve the quality of human health and life. The discipline focuses both on understanding complex living systems - via experimental and analytical techniques - and on development of devices, methods and algorithms that advance medical and biological knowledge while improving the effectiveness and delivery of clinical medicine. BME Laboratories The BME undergraduate program was developed with a virtual instrument approach for our nine required BME laboratories from its inception. Learn more about the laboratories. Study Abroad in Biomedical Engineering Dual Degree in BME and a Modern LanguageThe BME program offers a five-year dual degree program with the Department of Modern and Classical Languages in French, German, Italian and Spanish. Students with a strong background in a modern language can usually fulfill the dual degree program in less than five years. Supplemented with a study abroad experience, the dual degree program is an excellent preparation for work in the global economy. Click here to see a description of the course of study. 5 Year BME BS + MS Academic Plan The BME Program offers a five-year BS and MS degree academic plan to BME undergraduate students with a GPA > 3.0. Clinical Engineering The Biomedical Engineering Program is pleased to announce the availability of Clinical Engineering Internship opportunities at the University of Connecticut beginning in the fall 2010 semester.The Clinical Engineering Internship program is intended for M.S. students, and offers an in-depth, rigorous, clinical experience that matches the engineering expertise gained in the classroom. IEEE EMBS Student Branch Chapter and BMES Student Chapter The UConn BME students have an active Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBS) Student Branch Chapter and Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Student Chapter. Mentoring Program for Undergraduates The BME Mentoring Program is a service organized by the students of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) at the University of Connecticut. BMES is pleased to present a BME Mentoring Program where Freshmen and Sophomores will be paired with upperclassmen who can serve as academic mentors.
