Dr. Luh’s research areas include (1) Energy Efficient and Safe Buildings – optimized energy management, HVAC fault detection and diagnosis, emergency crowd guidance, and eco communities; (2) Smart Power Systems and Microgrids – smart grid, electricity markets, effective wind and solar integration to the grid, load and price forecasting, and micro grid; and (3) Intelligent Manufacturing Systems – planning, scheduling, and coordination of design, manufacturing and service activities. Behind the above are computationally efficient optimization methods for large and complicated problems. Professor Luh received the 2013 Pioneer Award of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society for his contributions.
