His main research falls into the following areas: (1) Collaborative security and access control models for role-based, mandatory, and discretionary approaches with security assurance as realized in the Unified Modeling Language (UML), the eXtensible Markup Language (XML), and cloud computing; (2) Biomedical Informatics and software architectures for secure and dynamic health information exchange; (3) Secure software engineering achieved through extensions to UML; (4) Ontology design and development models and methodologies for complex system design.
