Kotha Receives CAREER Award
Dr. Shiva Kotha, assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering, has won a coveted five-year, $430,000 NSF Early Career Development (CAREER) Award that will support his research focusing on strategies for improving the body's ability to repair damaged bone.

Engineers Without Borders Founder to Visit UConn
Dr. Bernard Amadei, president and founder of Engineers Without Borders (EWB), will visit UConn October 15-16. Dr. Amadei -- a professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Colorado and a member of the National Academy of Engineering -- will discuss the groundbreaking social and humanitarian achievements possible when engineers apply their expertise to challenges across the globe.

Intensive BRIDGE Prepares Incoming Students
During five demanding summer weeks, 25 incoming engineering freshmen underwent a kind of "boot camp" at the UConn campus, comprising classroom instruction, study sessions and tutoring aimed at preparing them for the freshman year experience.

Chiu and Sung Receive EFRC Funding
Two faculty members will contribute their expertise toward separate Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRCs) recently funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced the five-year awards in April.

Dean Appointed to Clean Energy Fund
Dean of Engineering Mun Y. Choi has been appointed to serve on the Renewable Energy Investment Board, better known as the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF). The appointment, which commences immediately, was announced by Denise Merrill, Majority Leader of the Connecticut House of Representatives.
