Vijaya Raghavan

Dr. Vijay Raghavan is a Director of Engineering at MathWorks. He manages various product areas in the fields of simulation, code generation, verification, and validation at MathWorks, including Stateflow, HDL and GPU Coders, and Simulink Test. He received his M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1994 and his Ph.D. in 1996 from the University of Connecticut. His Ph.D. research focused on Sequential Fault Diagnosis Algorithms.

Upon completion of his Ph.D., Dr. Raghavan joined MathWorks where he was part of the original team that developed the first version of Stateflow, a software tool for the modeling, simulation, and automatic code-generation of hierarchical state-machines to aid model-based design and development of complex, event-driven systems. Since its original introduction in 1997, Stateflow has matured into a powerful design and simulation tool for revolutionizing the design of complex systems and has hundreds of thousands of users across various industries, including automotive, aerospace, communications, and medical devices.

At MathWorks, Dr. Raghavan spearheaded research in the important area of compiler techniques applied to model-based design and high-level modeling languages, which resulted in a new generation of technologies and products. The product portfolio that he created and currently manages at MathWorks is responsible for over $60 million in annual revenues and has a global user base. His technical interests span model-based design, graphical programming languages, compiler technologies, code generators, simulators, interpreters, and automatic test vector generation. He has over 15 publications, including eight journal papers, and holds over 45 U.S. and international patents.
