About me

I was born in Buzau, Romania, in the beautiful and surprising Eastern Europe and went to high school at Colegiul National B. P. Hasdeu in Buzau. In 2000, I came to the United States to study at Connecticut College. After getting B.A degrees in Computer Science and Physics (and playing with countless robots for 4 years), I joined Boston University as a graduate student in Electrical Engineering.

I worked in Dr. Irving Bigio's lab, developing an experimental setup for the characterization of the mechanical and rheological properties of cells with an acousto-optic technique, and got my MS degree. I also became involved with Engineers Without Borders at Boston University.

I received my Ph.D at the University of Connecticut working with Dr. Peter Willett in the area of statistical signal processing with a focus on estimation (as applied to tracking) and information fusion. My CV can be downloaded here.

Currently, I am a Senior Research Scientist at the United Technologies Research Center in the Decision Support and Machine Intelligence group where my work is in the area of big data analytics. I have been a U.S. Permanent Resident since March 2010 and am married to Ozgur Erdinc who also got his PhD in Dr. Willett's lab at the University of Connecticut and is also with United Technologies Research Center. We have a daughter, Skylar Yagmur Erdinc, born 1/16/2012. Travel is one of my favorite things alongside photography, yoga and contemporary literature.
