Dr. Abboud received her doctoral degree at the Civil Engineering Department at the
University of Delaware. Her teaching interests include unit operations, water quality engineering, numerical methods in engineering, computer programming and graphics, applied mechanics, and physics. Professor Abboud's research focuses on cake filtration, sedimentation, transport in porous media, groundwater phenomena, and analytical methodology. She has developed successful mathematical models and solutions for various problems of cake filtration, porosity, and bacterial and particle transport. Her research is applicable in oil well drilling operations, water and wastewater treatment, ground water, and solid-liquid separation processes. Recent publications have appeared in Transport in Porous Media Journal, Journal of Colloid & Interface Science, Water Resources Journal, Fluid / Particle Separation Journal, Particulate Science and Technology, Computer Methods and Water Resources.Dr. Abboud has served as president of the New England Chapter of the American Filtration and Separation Society (1995-1999), and she has been a member of the International Scientific Advisory Committee for the Fourth International Conference on Computer Methods and Water resources. At the University of Connecticut, she participates in the Environmental Engineering core group and serves on the Advisory Board for the Institute of Business, Manufacturing, and Public Service and PTR committee (1998-1999). Since 1987 she has represented the Engineering Department at the Open House at the
Waterbury Campus.Professor Abboud plays an active role in the
American Filtration & Separation Society such as serving on the board and on the society's education committee since 1992. She served as an associate editor for the Fluid / Particle Separation Journal (1994-1998). From 1992 to the present she has served on the Editorial Review Board for the Fluid / Particle Separation Journal. She is Co-editor for the "Frontiers in Fluid-Particle Processes: The Education Challenge" AFSS Proceeding, 1993. Also, she reviewed papers for Transport in Porous Media Journal, Journal of Theoretical Biology, Journal of Contaminant Hydrology, In Situ and On-Site Bioreclamation an International Proceeding, Computer and Fluids Journals, Chemical Engineering Communication Journal, and Journal of Fluids Engineering. Dr. Abboud reviewed proposals for Petroleum Research Fund (ACS), PSC - Cuny Grants, Texas A & M University Sea Grant College Program. She also serves on the Scholarship committee at the Ehden Lebanese American Club.Dr. Abboud is the co-producer and director of the TV show "
From The Campus" March 1997-present.Other professional memberships include Board of Directors of the
American Lebanese Engineering Society, American Society of Civil Engineers, Solid/Liquid Separation Applied Theory Network, Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors.![]()
