UCMA Events of 2007

August 30th, 2007- The first Joint Committee meeting of semester is held and the new UCMA Constitution is ratified. Committee members receive their charges for the semester and a fi= rst General Body Meeting is decided upon.

 

June 28th, 2007- Many of = the professors, as well as Jacquelynn K.M. Garofano and other graduate

students, do a full day of presentations for high school students interested in scien= ce through their E2K program.

 

June 28th, 2007- Amber Bl= ack does a presentation at Ne= wtown High School for a m= iddle school grant program entitled “Career Options 4 Girls”. The presentation was recorded as a

podcast= for the girls attending the workshop. While ope= ning with the usual “UCMA Road Show”, this event also introduced UCMA Experiments. Members lead kids in hands-on material science experiments rat= her than just showing demos. At “Career Options 4 Girls” the kids learned how to make silver and gold pennies (zinc and brass on a copper pen= ny). The organization also bought 60 of our new girls t-shirts!

 

April 28th, 2007- Amber Bl= ack, Julie Anne Mackey, Dr. Mark Aindow, Dr. Rainer = Hebert and Dr. Bryan Huey entertain the talented elementary school students at the= CT Invention Convention.

 

April 26th-27th, 2007- Jacquelynn K.M. Garofano, Will Osborn, Thomas Sadowski, Amber N Black, Vi= ncent Palumbo, Greg Wrobel, Robin Bright, Misael Manjarres and Dr. = Rainer Hebert do continuous presentations at the CPTV Science Expo.

 

April 19th, 2007- Amber Bl= ack, Jacquelynn K.M. Garofano,= Julie Anne Mackey and Dr. Rainer Hebert travel to the Tolland Library to perform = the road show for a group of kids.

 

April 14th, 2007- The Spri= ng Open House again gives us the opportunity to show high school students the = possibilities MSE has to offer.

 

April 13th, 2007- The School of Engineering asks UCMA to present a= t the annual “Multiply Your

Options” program for girls in middle school. Amber Black presents to several groups = of students who ask that UCMA come to their schools in the future!<= /span>

 

March 17th, 2007- Many UCMA members volunteer to help at the Northeast Regional High School

Science Bowl, which takes place on St. Patrick’s Day despite a blizzard.

 

March 5th, 2007- Amber Bla= ck and Jessica DeMartino do a presentation for student= s from the Junior

Science & Humanities Symposium.

 

February 7th, 2007- A group of elite high school students attends a half-day workshop at IMS to expose the= m to engineering and MSE. Students volunteer to man booths with different demons= trations.
