- Lasers underlie novel methods in remote sensing, detection, recognition, authentication, and tracking systems. . .
National security quickly emerged in 2001 as a key national priority. New methods for securing information and communications systems, tracking and identifying enemy targets, biometric recognition, and remote sensing for detection of chemical aganets in the air, are being developed by Dr. Bahram Javidi and his team. The new methods draw on diverse expertise in optical sciences and engineering (including lasers), three dimensional (3D) imaging systems, information processing, computer based information systems, sensors, detectors, and biometrics. Other applications include gesture recognition, secure ID cards, data encryption, digital water marking and data embedding for images, secure barcodes and optical communication, 3D scanning systems, aerial recognition and reconnaissance, and video image monitoring, image recognition and tracking.
- Computers support target tracking and prediction. . .
- Building computer-communication networks to withstand attack. . .
- Getting RF power transmission to and telemetry from a waterborne sonar array. . .
- New methods link information networks securely. . .
