General
Polymers, usually long strings of organic chemical units joined together, have diverse applications, including use in protective barriers, textiles, pharmaceuticals and thin films. Plastics are a widely recognized, pervasive polymer material. But they are also used to protect marine and aeronautical vehicles from corrosion, reduce resistance and friction, and reduce wear and fatigue. The School of Engineering has a large corps of internationally renowned faculty experts and students involved in researching polymers.
