Research Interests

Dr. Wei's main teaching and research interests lie in biomaterials and related areas. Areas of particular interest include:

  • Synthesis and characterization of hydroxyapatite and ion substituted apatites
  • Biomimetic apatite coatings
  • Preparation and characterization of scaffold materials for tissue engineering applications
  • Preparation of ceramic/polymer composites for bone repair
  • Surface modification
  • Mechanisms of apatite nucleation and growth on biomaterials
  • Interactions between cell and different biomaterials
  • Modeling of cell behavior on biomaterial surfaces
  • Protein delivery and release kinetics
  • Stem cell research
  • In vivo animal tests
