MSE Minor - Materials Science & Engineering

Engineering students in other disciplines may earn a minor in Materials Science & Engineering. This minor provides a firm basis for understanding the relationships between the structure of all classes of materials, the processing conditions, and the properties of these materials that are critical to science and engineering. It requires the completion of 16 credits including the following:

  • An approved Plan of Study
  • MMAT243 Introduction to Structure, Properties, and Processing of Materials I (or MMAT 201 Materials Science and Engineering I)
  • MMAT244 Introduction to Structure, Properties, and Processing of Materials II
  • MMAT284 Materials Characterization and Processing Laboratory and 284 (or MMAT202 Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory).
  • 9 credits selected from MMAT 200-level courses (but not more than 3 credits of independent study MMAT 299).

The minor is offered by the Materials Science and Engineering Program. For more information, contact Dr. P. Alpay: (860) 486-4621 or p.alpay@ims.uconn.edu
