Professor Kattamis, received degrees in Mining Engineering (1960), Geological Engineering (1961) and Metallurgical Engineering (1962), all from the University of Liege, Belgium, and a M.S. (Metallurgy) (1963) and Sc.D. (Metallurgy) (1965) from M.I.T. He remained at M.I.T as a Research Associate and joined the University of Connecticut in 1969, becoming a Professor in 1975. He has taught extensively and conducted research, inter alia, in metals casting and solidification, materials processing, materials joining, composite materials, structure-property relationships, coatings and tribology. He has authored or co-authored over 130 publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings, and made many invited presentations. He has been a Visiting Professor at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, M.I.T., the Centre des Materiaux de l'Ecole des Mines de Paris, and The Aristoteles University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He has been and is active in consulting for Industry and Government Agencies.
