Course Title: CE 320 - 10, The Art and Practice of Geotechnical Engineering for Civil Engineers
Time: Tuesdays 5:00-8:00 pm
Professor(s): Dr. Al Candogan
Course Description: CE 320 - 10 is an unorthodox course oriented to familiarizing civil engineers and graduate students with the field practices of geotechnical engineering. The theoretical analyses and numerical problem solving are kept to a minimum in favor of covering a wide spectrum of specialized techniques employed during the resolution of ground and foundation related problems of civil engineering. Materials, machinery and equipment used in these operations are introduced with photos and illustrations. Main topics comprise of ground investigations, deep foundations, deep excavation support systems, drilling, grouting, and ground improvement. Also, covered in less detail are special applications, such as dam drilling and grouting, tunneling, shore and off-shore engineering, slope stability, and earthquake engineering.
