Recognizing that Connecticut industry has a significant need for a continuing graduate education program that is convenient to its workforce, in 1998 UConn's School of Engineering and United Technologies Corporation (UTC) partnered to bring graduate courses on-site to UTC engineers. The program was so successful that in the ensuing years it has been expanded significantly, both in terms of the course offerings and participating companies. A summary of the MENG program's evolution follows:
- MENG program offers graduate Mechanical Engineering courses on the East Hartford campus of Pratt & Whitney Aircraft.
- MENG program expands to include Materials Science & Engineering coursework.
- MENG program expands to include a Chemical Engineering concentration at the UTC Power South Windsor site.
- MENG program expands to include Civil and Environmental Engineering concentration at Fuss & O'Neill.
