Ph.D., University of California at Los Angeles, 1995.
Research Areas: Synthesis and properties of nanostructures (interfaces), with focus on atomistic simulations.
Dr. Huang joined the department in 2009. Previously, he was a professor of mechanical and nuclear engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He received his B.S. of Physics from Hebei Normal University (China) in 1984, M.S. of Theoretical Nuclear Physics from the Institute of Atomic Energy of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1987, and Ph.D. of Nuclear Engineering from University of California at Los Angeles in 1995. He has worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a post-doc and then staff scientist, and taught at Hong Kong Polytechnic University as an assistant professor and then associate professor. Dr. Huang's research focuses on interface processing, including synthesis, structure evolution under mechanical deformation, and structure evolution under radiation damage. His research effort has been sponsored by the National Science Foundation, Office of Basic Energy Science of Department of Energy, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Army Research Office, Interconnect Focus Center (a semiconductor industry consortium) at RPI, Hong Kong RGC, and jointly by Hong Kong RGC and German DAAD. In professional societies, Dr. Huang is Chair/Co-Chair of Nanotechnology Committee of USACM, Chair of Young Investigator Award Committee (experimental science) of ICCES, guest co-editor of multiple journals including MRS Bulletin, and associate editor of Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology.
