Dr. Kamal Kumar received his B.Tech in Energy Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (1998). He obtained his M.S. (2004) and Ph.D. (2007) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. His research interests are in the field of combustion, fuel-chemistry, and energy conversion systems. He teaches undergraduate courses in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and energy systems.

Dr. Zorlutuna received her PhD degree in Biotechnology Program from a joint project between Middle East Technical University and Queen Mary University of London on vascular tissue engineering. She held a postdoctoral appointment at the Bioengineering Department and Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign between 2009 and 2011. After that, she was a research fellow in biomedical engineering at Harvard Medical School and Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology until she joined UConn in 2012. Dr. Zorlutuna’s expertise is in the area of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine including stem cell research and engineering of bio-inspired systems. Her research is based on using micro and nanofabrication approaches for controlling cellular behavior with particular emphasis on designing systems for co-culturing different cell types in a physiologically relevant manner for engineering complex tissues and for directing stem cell differentiation.
