Mechanical Engineering Department hosted the 2011 Fall Technical Meeting of the Eastern States Section of the Combustion Institute, October 9-12, 2011. Learn more Two new faculty members joined our department: Prof. Ikjin Lee received his Ph.D. from University of Iowa and joined our faculty in the area of design and design optimization. Prof. Zhuyin Ren received his Ph.D. from Cornell University. His area of expertise is computational fluid dynamics and large eddy simulations of reacting flows. D.E. Crow Innovation Prize was awarded to Nishang Gupta (ME & BUS major) for design and marketing of a low-cost power conditioning device for farmers in the developing world. Two other student teams were also recognized with runner-up prizes. Profs. Chih-Jen (Jackie) Sung and Hanchen Huang elected to membership in Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (CASE). 2011 Pratt & Whitney Distinguished Lecture titled "Volcanic Ash: Aircraft Engine Encounters" delivered by Prof. Michael Dunn of Ohio State University. ME senior Maxim Budyansky won first place in the ASME International Old Guard Competition. Profs. Jiong Tang and Michael W. Renfro have been recognized by UTC Professorship in Engineering Innovation in successive terms. Prof. Eric Jordan named the United Technologies Professor of Advanced Materials Processing.
UTC-Pratt and Whitney established a new Engineering Center of Excellence at UConn with major participation by Mechanical Engineering faculty. read more
Prof. Tai-Hsi Fan is the recipient of the Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) award from National Science Foundation for his project "The Role of Mobility in Antibody Aggregation." read more
