Dr. Shin’s research has been focusing on analyzing next generation sequencing data, building visual user interfaces for scientific user communities, and mining of massive amount of data to turn them into knowledge base systems. In addition, he has been addressing a broad range of research and development issues involving databases of various data types (images, text, sound, etc.) and building associated user interfaces. Specifically, his research topics include: (1) Development of user-friendly workflow environment capable of incorporating various human factors into intelligent business logics; (2) Applying data mining technology to turn massive amount of data into a knowledge-bases system to aid agile business decision making; (3) Development of various types of scientific and engineering databases that are capable of supporting seamless data analysis and process interoperation.
