Professional Summary

Dr. Pettes’s research has been focused on fundamental energy transport mechanisms in nanoscale materials, such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, and 2D thermoelectrics, as well as design of bulk materials that can benefit from these unique transport properties, such as mesoporous semimetals. His main research falls into the following areas: (1) Multiproperty measurements on individual nanomaterials; (2) Carrier transport mechanisms in novel material classes such as topological insulators; (3) Covalently interconnected porous networks for energy conversion and storage. Design of microfabricated test structures and materials characterization techniques are an integral part of his research.
