Professional Summary

Dr. Mandoiu’s main research interests are in the areas of bioinformatics and computational genomics, with a special focus on the development of high-performance computational methods for the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data. His research in these areas has been funded by grants from NSF, NIH, USDA, and Life Technologies Corporation, including a prestigious NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award. He has published over 90 refereed articles in journals and conference proceedings and 8 book chapters. He has also co-edited 8 conference proceedings and a book on “Bioinformatics Algorithms: Techniques and Applications” published in the Wiley Book Series on Bioinformatics. Dr. Mandoiu serves as an associate editor for BMC Bioinformatics and is on the editorial board of In Silico Biology and the International Journal of Bioinformatics Research and Applications. Ongoing projects include development of algorithms for de novo genome assembly, metatranscriptome assembly and quantification, biomarker selection, viral quasispecies reconstruction, genomic-guided cancer immunotherapy, computational deconvolution of gene expression data from heterogeneous cell mixtures, and analysis of single-cell expression data.
