Admission to the Environmental Engineering Program is offered on a competitive basis to highly qualified individuals who show promise for distinguished professional and/or academic careers. A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited school is the primary requirement for admission. Direct entry into the doctoral program with a B.S. degree is available to students with a record of exceptional academic accomplishment. Students with mathematics, natural or physical science, or other science backgrounds are encouraged to apply to the M.S. program with the understanding that, if admitted, they will be required to remedy undergraduate engineering/science deficiencies. In addition to satisfying the basic requirements of the Graduate School, applicants must meet the minimum program requirements.
The Environmental Engineering Program offers three types of graduate degrees:
1.) M.S. (Plan A* or Plan B)
2.) M.S. – Professional Practice
3.) Ph.D.*
*The Plan A M.S. and Ph.D. degrees require significant independent research work leading to a thesis (M.S.) or dissertation (Ph.D.)
Graduate Student Financial Aid
The form and amount of financial support vary, depending upon the degree sought (Ph.D. or M.S.), and the particular assistantship offered. Current stipends for entering Ph.D. students are approximately $28,283.00 per year and increase annually. An attractive benefits package including full medical coverage is also provided. This information will be detailed clearly in the offer letter sent to you by the Environmental Engineering Program.
In most instances, graduate students are eligible for tuition and fee waivers. Summer research work for additional compensation beyond that normally paid for teaching and/or research duties during the usual academic year frequently is available.
