I am interested in addressing fundamental questions on the analysis and prediction of atmospheric and surface hydrologic variables at both weather and climate scales. The focus of my program is on the remote sensing of precipitation and soil moisture, and in developing optimality criteria of rain retrieval error for use in land data assimilation systems. My specific interests include:real-time radar rainfall estimation; global rainfall monitoring from multi-sensor space-borne observations; continuous lightning monitoring from long-range radio receivers; developing techniques for data assimilation in atmospheric and hydrologic models; and quantifying error in hydrologic
forecasting.
