Explore Engineering E2

High Schoolers Learn Engineering is Fun

We are no longer accepting applications for Explore Engineering 2009 Session - The deadline for accepting applications has passed.

E2 is a one-week residential summer program for current high school juniors and seniors. During this exciting week at the Storrs Campus, participants explore engineering careers by working in small groups with faculty and college students to learn what various engineers do in the workplace; learn and demonstrate engineering concepts and during the evenings YESS Program (6-8 pm Monday - Wednesday) students focus on a single engineering discipline by fabricating a discipline specific device. The week wraps up with demonstrations of items the students created during the week. Examples include rudimentary EKG devices, Smart Lego vehicles that can follow a trail, fuel cell and other energy efficient devices, wooden bridges, environmental friendly processes and how to resolve differences.

Eligibility

  • Must be a current sophomore or junior in High School
  • Have submitted your application by April 24th, 2009

All decisions regarding applicants are made after all applications have been submitted.

E2 participants are nominated by their high school math, science, or technology teachers. Enrollment is restricted to 80 students. These students receive:

  • Exposure to 12 Engineering Programs
  • Housing and 13 meals
  • Instruction from full-time faculty
  • Mentoring and coaching from college continuing engineering students
  • Access to state-of-the-art research area
  • Access to our Engineering Learning Center and associated software

There is a $500 fee to attend this program, which covers project material, and supply costs.
