Photo Hal Brody Receives 2009 Chalmers Award

Distinguished Professor of Materials Science & Engineering Harold Brody was recently honored by TMS, the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society, which presented him the 2009 Bruce Chalmers Award for outstanding contributions in the field of solidification science. Dr. Brody received the award in recognition for his "seminal contributions to microsegregation and back diffusion during dendritic solidification, in situ composites and peritectic solidification, and computer modeling of solidification processing."

Photo Student Profile: Jennifer Kleinhans

Senior Jennifer Kleinhans has been chosen the 2008-09 Big East Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Jennifer will graduate in May with her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and numerous honors for her performance as a member of UConn's field hockey team. She is a three-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-America selection who has garnered countless other honors for her prowess on the field.

Photo Students to be Honored at Awards Reception

The School of Engineering will hold its annual awards ceremony and reception on Tuesday, April 28 at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts. On that evening, we will celebrate our outstanding scholarship recipients in a special event for students and their families, scholarship donors and industry friends.

During the evening, more than 200 undergraduate engineering students will be recognized for academic excellence, and scholarships donors will be recognized for their contributions.

Dr. C. Barry Carter, Department Head and professor of Chemical, Materials & Biomolecular Engineering, was selected a Fellow of the Materials Research Society (MRS). He will be formally recognized during the organization's spring meeting in April.
