Instructions to setup Outlook 2003 to work with an Exchange Server

  • Right click on the Microsoft Outlook Icon on the desktop and Select properties
  • Click the Add button
  • Type a name for the profile and click the OK button
  • Select the Add a new mail account radio button and Click next
  • At this point there are three (3) options that are supported by the Engineering Computer center.  The only truly supported method for faculty, staff and graduate students is the Microsoft Exchange Server.
  • For undergraduates and those who do not choose to use the VPN, click on the link for the instructions you want to use IMAP or POP3. For those using a Mac, Click this link for Entouragedirections on the mail E-Mail page.
  • For computers that reside outside of the Engr_Student Domain you will need a VPN tool to get through the ECS firewall.
  • For the Microsoft Exchange Server, within the School of Engineering the connection can be directly made via this wizard.
  • Select the Microsoft Exchange Server radio button is selected then click  next.
  • Type ecs-mail2 in the Microsoft Exchange Server Box.
  • Check the Use cached Exchange mode box.
  • Type your user account login name.
  • Clickcheck name.
  • If the server gives more than one option for the account chose the correct one. If you cannot get the server to recognize your name then you most likely are outside of the network and will need to use the VPN client to use this method to connect to the server.
  • Once the server resolves the name click next
  • Click finish and OK on the last box to complete the wizard.
