RECOVERY OF DATA

- Recovery of Data services in ECS fall into 3 main categories.
- Home Drive - Instantaneous- The First category is an automatic service end users can perform automatically on work that is stored on the Filer, your Z, H, or W drives.
- Users can Right Click on the file in question
- Select the previous versions tab.
- Select the version of the file that you want restored.
- Click Restore
- Click Yes to acknowledge the fact that an irreversible change is going to be made to the file on the filer.
- Click OK to acknowledge that the older file version has been restored.
- If no previous versions are displayed, no changes have been made to the file over which the previous versions system operates.
- Tape Backup - 2-3 Days - For Items that have been deleted, there are backup tapes from which the deleted items may possibly be restored from.
- Call the ECS helpdesk as soon as possible with the following information.
- your account name
- the complete path in the filing tree to where the file was located
- the last time the file was correct/good
- This process may take 2-3 days to complete
- Hard Drive - 2-3 Days - Data can be lost from your storage devices because of viruses, formatting, hardware failure and many other causes. ECS has bought some powerful programs to recover your data.
- If you have lost any data, bring your storage media to the ECS Help Desk in EII room 306B and provide us with the following information:
- Storage device brand and type, storage device size, Operating System used, description of data to be restored (including, type location and format), name, department and contact information.
- Some manufacturers provide warranty with the storage device they sell, so it is essential to know if the device is still under warranty, so you must provide us with the purchase date if known too.
- Data recovery for big Hard Drives may take 2 to 3 business days or much more, depending on the severity of the errors and whether the error is a physical error or just a file system error. For small devices, like floppy disks or flash memory, it might be able to be done within the same day, but likewise depend on the nature of the error.
