Secure Wireless
  • Secure wireless allows you access to all available communication ports. Users of the secure network must have a School of Engineering Windows account (the same one used to check email) as well as having their MAC address registed with ECS. Typically secure wireless connections are used by SOE Faculty, Staff, and Grad Student but sometimes are given to Undergraduates if there is a legitmate reason.
  • Use of the Secure wireless network requires a LEAP compatible wireless card. LEAP is a Cisco proprietary protocol that is being adopted by various card vendors. If you are buying a new card, look for one that says "compatible with CCX extensions". Cisco, Linksys, Netgear and Intel all have CCX (LEAP) compatible cards.
  • At present, there is no secure wireless solution for Vista as LEAP is not supported by Vista.
  •
  • If your wirless card or operating system does not support LEAP, You can use the UITS VPN to access all SOE resources. Instructions for VPN usage are available at: Using the UITS VPN to access SoE resources
