SoE Wired Connections

 

All the datajacks inside the School of Engineering buildings are maintained and configured by ECS. Registration is necessary to use the SoE wired network to prevent unauthorized personnel from gaining access to the school's network. There are no security limitations (firewall restrictions) that will prevent you from connecting to SoE resources.

Connecting to the wired network

If you want to be able to have an IP Address on your computer you need to answer the following questions and you have to fill an IP Address Form ac (1K) and submit it to your Departmental IT Contact Person.

To get your mac address:

  1. Click on the start button
  2. Click on run
  3. "cmd" (without the quotes) and hit enter
  4. Type "ipconfig /all" (without the quotes)
  5. You will see "physical address" (MAC) listed one or more times - be sure not to choose the wireless adapter (if applicable)

Troubleshooting

If you face any problems connecting to the wired network contact your departmental computer support person or the ECS Help Desk and provide the following information: 

  • Building, Room and Jack number
  • Department
  • Name
  • Phone number.
  • Before contacting your support person, please test the jack with another computer or laptop and check the cable.

Wired Connection Types

All of the School of Engineering will be undergoing a Network upgrade in the spring of 2008. The upgrade will involve rewiring UTC, EII, and the Castleman building . The end result will be that the all of the School of Engineering buildings will have a Category 6 network available to all users.
