Prototyping and Real Time Testing of Underwater Acoustic Modem

Abstract:-

Home                                     The aim of our senior design project is to prototype and test a stand-alone

Members                               underwater acoustic modem, based on existing multicarrier modem designs

Project Proposal                tested mainly in a lab environment. Important aspects are signal amplification and

Project Statement              system modularization. With signal amplification, we would be able to transmit the

Presentation                        signal for a range of almost 200 meters as opposed to the previous tests of

Final Report                         distance about 1 meter. With system modularization, we would be able to perform

Presentation_video.zip    real time tests of the stand-alone modem in the lakes, rather than in the tanks. In

Weekly Updates                 the demonstration, a transmitter implemented in a DSP board is programmed to

Pictures                                send data every 20sec. There are two receivers to be demonstrated, the first one

uses Matlab programs on a laptop, while the second one is based on a DSP

board containing all the system software. The DSP board, a power amplifier,

batteries, and an underwater transducer/hydrophone are placed in a waterproof

casing.
