Research Interest: Biomolecular Networks
The interactions among genes, RNA, and proteins within a cell can be thought of as a reaction network of biomolecules. Our goal is to develop a better understanding of the properties and evolution of these networks. Ultimately we hope to rationally manipulate and engineer cellular networks to better treat diseases or develop new biological products.
Research Interest: Systems Biology
The function of biological systems cannot be explained by simply knowing the biological components making them up. It is also necessary to understand how the components work together. We are developing mathematical models that describe the interplay and dynamics among components of pathogenic organism and diseases. After validating these models experimentally, we will use them in developing and optimizing therapeutic treatment strategies.
Research Interest: Bioinformatics & Biosensors
We are developing biosensors and using bioinformatics to determine the distributions of mutant variants among populations of cells or viruses. Using these tools, we intend to characterize the dynamics of mutant selection, particularly drug resistance.
