About the Department

Welcome to our new dynamic Department of Chemical, Materials & Biomolecular Engineering. The department arose in early 2006 from the fusion of two key units within the School of Engineering: the departments of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering. The union provides the University of Connecticut a unique opportunity to build a world-class biomolecular engineering program in addition to the extant vibrant programs in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering.

With a combined first-rate faculty of 25 full-time professors, 7 teaching/research, joint and adjunct faculty, and 8 Emeritus faculty. We have expertise in cutting-edge technological areas that span the full spectrum of chemical, environmental, polymers, materials, materials processing and characterization, nanotechnology, fuel cell science and technology, and biomedical and biomaterials engineering at the molecular level.

Students in the Department of Chemicals, Materials & Biomolecular Engineering will enjoy significant opportunities for cross-cutting research in many exciting areas.
