- Understanding composite formation at the most fundamental level. . .
Thin-film composites find application in many diverse uses, including magnetic, optical, opto-electronic, medical, electrical, catalysis, biological, and templating applications. Dr. Mark Aindow is interested in understanding how thin-film composites of self-assembled metal nanoparticles are formed in situ. This new area of research entails the reactive co-sputtering synthesis and characterization of thin-film composites containing highly organized, monodisperse metal nanoparticles (<10 nm) in ceramic matrices.
