Laura Marie Harris |
My name is Laura Harris. I am participating in the EUROTECH Program at the University of Connecticut , where I am studying Chemical Engineering and German. I am interested in Chemical Engineering, and would like to become an Environmental Engineer, so I can develop processes to protect the environment. German interests me, because I feel communication with people from other countries is extremly important. Everyone should learn a foreign language! I enjoy learning German, and hopefully when I graduate, I will be able to work in an international company where I can practice my German every day!Now a little bit about my interests. I enjoy any outside activities. Running, hiking, swimming cross skiing and SCUBA diving are all lots of fun. I also like drawing, listenening to music, visiting friends, and of course, traveling. This past summer I spent a month in Germany. It was beautiful, and I can't wait to go back!

Laura Harris tell how she used their summer
During the month of August 1996 we took part in international summer courses at the Albert-Ludwigs-Univerity in Freiburg in Breisgau. These month-long courses in culture and language were great fun. Not only the courses interesting, but other students very friendly and the whole experience was wonderful. We now believe that the best way for one to learn German is to be in Germany, where you can and have to speak with Germans every day.
We met students from many different countries. Participants were from Italy, Spain, Hungary, Norway, Sweden, Poland. France, Switzerland, Enland, Canada, Japan, Korea, and other countries as well. It was especially interesting since many of them couldn’t speak English. That meant we had to speak German to make acquaintances. Every week the group made excursions; through these trips we learned about the German culture. The entire stay was really fun. We heartily recommend the program to others.
