Johnson & Johnson
Report by Brian Schwegler
Summer 1995
My name is Brian Schwegler. This past summer I worked at Johnson & Johnson in Southington, Connecticut. I am a senior at the University of Connecticut where I am double-majoring in German and Chemical Engineering. Up to now I have only studied German for one year, however, I hope to have the opportunity to work at a German company. This summer I did an internship at Johnson & Johnson Medical in Southington, where the firm produces vascular access catheters. The internship was very interesting and I learned a great deal about Excimer laser research. I had to write reports about failure more effects analysis and process qualification. I worked with a group of engineers in the Process Development Department. I also learned a lot about injection molding Polymer extrusion and computers. Now I am skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint and MathCad. I have also worked with computers at the Kurz Company. At this international firm I learned something about I.S.O., the international standards, as well as about the environment and its protection. After my internship, I feel that I am well-versed in the areas of computers, chemistry, mathematics and laboratory work. If I have to, I can write a good report or presentation. And now I am much more familiar with the real work that engineers do and find it interesting and enjoyable. Since I like technical work, I hope to find a good position as an engineer.
In my major, I also study engineering in German, including technical German. My grades are above average in both majors. In the Spring of 1997 I will finish my 5 year course of study with a BA in German and a BS in Engineering. Then I would like to work for an American firm in Germany or a German firm in the U.S.
