GENERAL EDUCATION GUIDELINESFOR EUROTECH STUDENTS
To optimize your German course work as part of Gen Ed, there are two options:
Option 1:
Content Area 1:
A (Arts): Germ 281 B (Literature): Germ 255 (the one we typically offer from the sequence 252 – 255) C (History): Take any one course listed here in the Catalogue D (Philosophy/Ethical Analysis): PHIL 104 required for Engineers (no substitutes) A,B,C,D,E: Take one additional course, but NOT a Germ course because you need courses from four different academic units.
= 5 Courses
(Content Areas 2 and 3 have no Germ courses, the requirements are the same as for the School of Engineering)
Content Area 4:
Use Germ 281 for the “double dip” Take Germ 251 for the other course in this area
Option 2:
Content Area 1:
A: Germ 281 OR B: Germ 255 C: Take any one course listed here in the Catalogue D: Take any one course listed here in the Catalogue E (World Cultures): Germ 251
= 5 courses
(Content Areas 2 and 3 have no Germ courses, the requirements are the same as for the School of Engineering)
Content Area 4:
Germ 251 and Germ 281, either one can be the “double” dip, both courses together fulfill Area 4 requirements = 2 courses
With both options you will already have earned 9 credits of the 24 200 level German credits required for the German Studies major (Germ 251, 281 and 255).
NOTE: Most Germ courses now have “W”s attached to them, but they have basically the same written requirements as before, however, the new standards for “W”s made them qualify for the “W” (mainly because now, writing in a foreign language counts, too.)
