items from 8.4, I made the following response:

Thanks for your question.  The only items in 8.4 
that are relevant are the Definitions on p. 469 & 
470 (which we've discussed many times prior to 
Ch. 8 and were well understood) and the proof given 
in Example 8.4.6, which really is only about induction.
This material is fair game for the final.
