Hein, Jones and Bartlett ****** Modified Grading Plan, Effective 3/29/05 ************************** HW presentations in class, 5 points each, 1 time for each student = 5 Weekly Homework, randomly graded, due at beginning of each class, 4 pts each = 40 points HWA, as assigned on web site, due Tu, 2/1/05 at beginning of class, 5 pts = 5 points 2 Tests, each worth 10 points 20 points Final 30 poitns _____ 100 points Office hours, Tu & Th, 8:15am - 9:15am, ITEB 231 We will generally follow the outline given on p. vii of the text for the 15 week course of 'Discrete mathematics with some formal logic' with the exceptions that 1) We will likely not cover the last material, as we have less than 15 weeks. 2) The first class will give a brief introduction to Big Oh notation, which is not formally presented until Chapter 5. This introduction will be crucial to understand your first homework, which is due on Tues, 2/1/05. 3) Following completion of 6.2, we move to 10.1 and then 10.2. Further details to follow. 4) Last 4 classes: 4/19, 4/21, 4/26, 4/28. The last class will be a student driven review session. I will answer any questions through the end of the class session. Starting on Tues, 4/19, we will cover 10.3, 10.4 and some of 10.5, but at least inclusive of Fermat's Little Theorem to prepare you for future work in encryption.
